As of August 20th 2011, Concordia University has a brand new Cisco based wireless campus network designed to bring you better service through improved coverage and speed.

Supported Protocols:
2.4Ghz 802.11g Good (3 available channels, 6-54Mbps)
2.4Ghz 802.11n Better (3 available channels, 7-150Mbps)
5Ghz 802.11a Better (23 available channels, 6-54Mbps)
5Ghz 802.11n Best! (23 available channels, 7-150Mbps)

Because there is far less overlap and interference in the 5Ghz band we STRONGLY recommend you use 5Ghz 802.11n. If you are purchasing or upgrading your computer, be sure you get a dual-band or 5Ghz wireless network card that supports 5Ghz 802.11n (not to be confused with 2.4Ghz 802.11n).

If you have an older computer, 5Ghz USB network adapters are typically less than $50 (eg. Linksys AE2500) and are available most places online and in local stores (Amazon, Best Buy etc..)

Slow Wireless?

Please remember, wireless networking is a shared medium, meaning the available bandwidth per channel is shared by all users. If you are experiencing poor signal quality or speed, please first consider upgrading to a dual-band or 5Ghz 802.11n wireless adapter. In many cases this will immediately improve the quality and speed of your wireless connection.

Please also be sure you are using the student wireless network SSID: Student13

The “Guest” network is intentionally locked down to very limited web services and slow speeds for security reasons. Regular students should NOT use the “Guest” network as it WILL provide a very slow and limited connection.

Please report wireless service problems to with the time/date, nature of the problem and the location where you experienced the problem.

*Note* The Concordia University wireless network no longer supports the older 802.11b protocol. This may affect some older devices or gaming systems. Some versions of the Nintendo Wii may be affected. The Technology Service Center can assist you with information on connecting your Wii to our wired network.
