Online Content Accessibility Checklist

If you are creating any content to post online that needs to be accessible, using the following information as a checklist can be extremely helpful. While this checklist is not comprehensive, it provides basic of the guidelines covered in the
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0.

Text and Contrast
Make sure your text has strong contrast against the page background.

Text Styles
Use Bold, Italics, and underlines to denote differences, emphasis, and content meaning. Doing this rather than colors helps color-blind and low vision users

Heading Styles
When using headers, utilize descriptive text that designates how the content is organized. For long pages, use a table of contents link the one found on this wiki article.

List Styles
Use a bulleted or numbered list. This keeps the list structures as well as helps screen reading software make sense of how the page is organized.

Alternative Text
Alternative text should be provided for any images, graphs, or charts. Alt. text explains what is being illustrated in the graphic. If the graphic is decorative and doesn't relate to the content, add that as the alt. text.

Closed Captioning
Video, audio, and interactive media should all have either closed captioning or a written transcript.

Hyperlinks
When adding hyperlinks, make sure there is context in the link text that describes where a user is going. "Click Here" is not a good hyper link. A good example is to describe the page or title of what you are clicking on.

Tables
Keep your tables simple. Make sure you have headers at the top. This table is a good example of what to do.
