Information for Students

Are you a new student? Welcome! A good first step to being successful at Concordia is to get acquainted with the available technology. Browse the links in this article to familiarize yourself with what is available to you as a Concordia student, and what you'll need in order to use Concordia's technology effectively.

Getting Started

After you get your acceptance letter from Admissions, the first thing you'll want to do is get your account information ready to go. Concordia has two different student accounts: your Network account and your MyCU account.

Your Network Account is what you will use to access all student resources while you are at Concordia - with it, you can log in to the Intranet, Blackboard, library databases, your student email, and computers around campus. MyCU is where your personal information is stored; you use MyCU to manage your finances and tuition, check your class schedule, update your contact info, and, if you participate in work study, where you will input your hours and find tax forms. (Click here for more details.)

Blackboard is the platform through which Concordia's online learning is based. It acts as a secondary hub of student information; if your class has an online component, you can use it to check your grade progress, participate in online discussions, email your professors and classmates, and turn in assignments. It's also where you will take your Math Placement exam, which is a critical first step when registering for classes as a new student.

Checklist for Getting Started

Once you have completed all of the above, you should be ready for class to start whether that be on campus or online!

When you arrive on campus

Your first couple days on campus are going to be busy! To get plugged in right away, make sure that you can do the basics: connect to the wireless in your dorm room, apply for your parking permit, and have your ID printed in the Tech Center.

Campus Technology Resources

There are a lot of technology resources available to you as a Concordia student; make sure you're taking full advantage of them! As part of your technology fee, you are entitled to a copy of Microsoft Office or Windows if needed. You can also make an appointment to install a free, licensed version of Sophos Antivirus, reserve any of our available check-out equipment, or check out our computer lab to print or use special software by contacting the Tech Center via email at support@cu-portland.edu.

Sending a Support Request

The fastest and easiest way to get your questions answered by a Tech Service Center staff member is to send a message through email. Our address is support@cu-portland.edu, and this email queue is watched and updated consistently from 7AM-11PM. Our usual turn around time for email work tickets (when you email us, it automatically generates a 'work ticket' through which we will work with you to answer your question/solve your problem) is under 15 minutes.
