VPN (Virtual Private Network) client is a small piece of software that allows you to connect to a designated network securely, using the infrastructure of another network to access the designated one. Most, but not all of the time, this means connecting to a private network, like CU's, through the Internet.

The CU VPN Client is required for accessing the following:
  • Reaching files stored on the network drives when off-campus (H Drive, I Drive, etc)
  • Accessing Banner off-site

Please Note: While the Cisco VPN client is compatible on the Mac, using a Mac to connect to Network Drive resources is not fully supported by Concordia IT. Because of that, features may not function in the same way or even be accessible as they would on a PC.

Downloading and Installing

Follow the steps below to download, install, and configure the CU VPN Client.
1. Downloading the client installer by clicking here:

2. Locate the downloaded file and double click it to launch.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program. Only the VPN package is required. The other 3 options can be unchecked.

4. You will see the below message once the program has been installed

5. To configure the VPN for first use, launch the program from your applications folder

6. In the Connect to field, enter: vpn.cu-portland.edu

7.Under Group select either: employee or student ( if you are faculty or staff, choose employee)

8. Now enter your network username and password, then click Continue.

9. The client will now connect. Please allow for 30 seconds or more before attempt to access your network drives.
