Clearing Your Java Cache

In the past, Blackboard had an issue with a Java Security Warning that, if handled incorrectly by the user, would remove much of the functionality of Blackboard. The issue has been resolved and users should no longer be receiving the error message. However, if you have ever received this warning, you will need to clear your Java cache (an area on your computer that Java stores information in) in order for you to log into Blackboard as normal, without continuing to experience the Security Warning.

Clearing the Cache

1. Open your Start menu and choose the Control Panel option on the right-hand side.

2. In the Control Panel, find the icon for your Java Console (a small steaming coffee cup) and double-click it.

3. This will bring up a tabbed dialog box. On the "General" tab, under the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click the "Settings..." button located on the bottom-right corner of the tab.

4. This will bring up the Temporary Files Settings dialog. At the bottom of the dialog, click the "Delete Files..." button.

5. A Delete Temporary Files dialog will then appear, asking if you would like to "Delete the following temporary files?". Make sure that both boxes in the middle of the dialog are checked, then click the "OK" button at the bottom of the dialog.

Now just click the "OK" button on all the dialog boxes you have open. Your Java cache is now cleared!
