PaperCut for Mac

Concordia University offers the ability to print to campus printers using a variety of devices. While it is suggested that Mac users try the web based client, some users may not get the functionality they need. To learn about web printing, follow the link here. In this article we will go over the steps required to connect your Mac computer to our printers. While setup is possible, it should be noted that any printed configured on a Mac is not supported by Concordia ITS and may not function the same way it would on a PC. The Tech Center can provide best effort troubleshooting should an issue arise.

Getting Started

You must first install PaperCut and download the printer drivers before continuing. The information below will walk you through that process:

1. Installing PaperCut

Mac users will need to install the local version of the PaperCut client before proceeding. Click here to download the zip file. Use this to install the PaperCut software on your computer. This program must be running in order to print while on campus. Follow the Video Tutorial below for step by step instruction.

2. Downloading Drivers

If you are a Mac user, connecting to the Concordia Network printers requires manually mapping the printers' network location to your computer's printer menu. This is not a difficult process - though it does involve several steps - and requires that you also download and install specific drivers depending on the model printer you wish to connect to. We recommend installing all the available driver packages so that you can connect to whichever available printer is most convenient. For a short guide to which driver packages are used in which buildings, see below:
  • For Printing in the Portland and Boise Libraries
  • For Printing in Hagen Center
    • For color printing. Download and install the RICOH Driver Package Version 1.0.1
    • For Black and White printing. Download and install the Gutenprint drivers Hag-Lab-B Drivers

Your OSX Version Matters

Before continuing, check which version of OS X you are running by clicking on the Apple icon in the upper right corner of your screen, then choosing "About This Mac". This will show you what Version you have (in this example, 10.7.3) as well as the option to check for Software Updates. We recommend running any available software updates that may be available before continuing with this process.

Adding a Printer in Mac OSX

We will go over the steps required to connect to a printer using a Mac.

The differences in interface may change slightly based on the version of the OS you are one; however, the steps should remain the same.

Go to System Preferences and choose the Print & Scan option. The Print and Scan dialogue box will appear.

Next click the + sign at the bottom left corner of the Print and Fax window pane. This will allow you to add a printer. In addition, make sure that the lock in the lower part of the window is open. If not, click on it and provide your computers user name and password. (Not: this is not your Concordia username and password; this is your individual computer password.

2. In the URL field, after 'smb:' enter the following: print.ntdom.cupdx/(printer name) for Portland, or law-print.ntdom.cupdx/CUBOI-138-P if printing in Boise.
